Description: Auslogic Disk Defrag is a freeware disk defragmentation tool that seems to be significantly faster than Microsoft’s defrag.
The Auslogics claim that this program is a very fast disk defragmenter; however, I have not found any figures as to how much faster than defrag this is supposed to be. What I do know, however, is that the defragmentation process with this program feels pretty darn speedy just to observe.
Why defragment?: For those who dont know what it is, defragmentation is a process whereby files on the hard drive are re-arranged so that they are contiguous. On a heavily used hard drive, the disk operating system will typically ‘write’ a file on a bit of available space, jump to another bit of space somewhere else to write the rest of the file, and do this until the file is stored completely. Defragmentation saves time in that when files are contiguous the hard drive head will not need to do a lot of jumping around to read the file in it’s entirety. This can lead to a significant increase in performance because hard drives are the slowest component on a computer, and will function as bottlenecks. It will leads to better system stability.
Besides its speed, Auslogic Disk Defrag also features a graphical representation of the state of your hard drive’s fragmentation. It presents a report at the end of the defragmentation process which includes percent of defragmentation before and after as well as, interestingly, the estimated performance boost due to defragmentation (an impressive 16% in the case of my hard drive).
However, this program does not have any defragmentation scheduling options. And although it is possible to run the defragmentation process while simultaneously working with other applications/files, this software does it support on-the-fly defragmentation as a background process contiuously keeping your hard drive defragmented.
For what it is, an on-demand defragmenter, it is highly recommended; it’s fast, very small, looks good, and is 100% free.

This is a very good freeware. Much much faster than the windows defrag. I would recommend it.
CHKDSK is not a defrag app - it is used to check a drive for file errors, surface errors, etc.
It gets stuck on my comp at my thunderbird inbox and other folders in it…dunno why…may be coz they are large files.. but i have tried everything to make it work, but it just gets hung up. hope they do something about it in the next version (i have reported the matter to them).
Why has this programs home page site been suspended?
I have to question the credibility of a software reviewer that doesn’t even know what CHKDSK is. I mean, that’s been around since DOS 1.0. (Not knowing CHKDSK is one thing, but comparing the product directly to it [twice] is really, really bad.) And despite this glaring mistake having been posted by Len S five months ago, the mistake has not been corrected. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You’re just stupid.

You’re right; where I wrote Chkdsk I meant defrag. This site and service is provided for free, even for annoying people such as yourself; whether you find it credible is up to you.
I have tested this software, for about week. Indeed, it seems to work fast. But what do we want from this kind of software, speed or good results (defragmented hard drive). It would be the best thing if could get bouth of it.
Slow defrag. software we could schedule to defragment hdd when we are not using PC or when it is not heavily loaded (watching movies, listening music and etc.).
Auslogics Disk Defrag, constantly reported line of red boxes, as it is fragmented files, and could not defragment it. No matter how many time i start it. Then i turned on Windows Defragment utility, which also reported fragmented files, but defragment it successfully after one run.
In my opinion, about this software, being fast defragmenting tool has some negative results impact.
I have tested this software on most of my clients computers as well as my 4 at home. This software is much faster that Windows and does a very good job, and it is free.

I have been using Auslogics Disk Defrag for a while now and I must agree, this application is one of the best ones out there.
It’s faster than the built-in tool from Microsoft and offers the ability to view the report after it has finished defragging your harddrive.
I also use Auslogics Registry Defrag and this application works well as well, for defragmenting the Windows Registry and improving the speed of your computer.
This is great for ‘Quickie’ Defrags (1-3 times a day) - I also keep IOBit’s “SmartDefrag” running, and use “PerfectDisk 8″ (PayWare), “DisKeeper Lite”, and/or “JkDefrag GUI” to be ‘Truly Thorough’ (2-3 times a week), but AusLogics handles my more frequent housekeeping chores - after using “CCleaner” & “EasyCleaner” to clean up unneeded files, of course!
One Oddity to note; RaxCo’s “PerfectDisk” can’t ‘See’ or Defrag my 500GB External USB Drive, but AusLogics (and others) can - Hmmmm….

Guys if you have not noticed. Vista defrager is actually a stripped version of diskeeper which is supposed to be among the best on the market. So do not bother with number of paid or free defragers, because vista defrager is very good. It is just slow while defraging but I do not mind that.
