Windows Double Explorer: simple dual pane tabbed file browser

Windows Double Explorer (WDE) is a free, simple, 100% portable tabbed file browser for Windows 7that supports two horizontal or vertical panes.

Although WDE looks like many dual pane file browsers, it is noteworthy in that it provides both tabbed browsing in each pane (in the manner of web browsers) as well as portability (i.e. just unzip and run, no installation necessary). It is practical while keeping things very simple.

There’s not much more to say about this software, but that’s exactly the point: it looks good and works really well. It will let you store favorite folders and copy paths to clipboard, and lock tabs so that there’s always there when the program is launched. Practical necessities without complicating things too much.

The verdict: a quick solution for users who want dual pane file management quickly and without installing overly-complicated file management software. The one thing I would have liked to see is the ability to move tabs around via drag and drop
