ACE Online is a free to play action-based Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game that has excellent graphics and fast and furious game play, all with a zero price tag.
If you’re a fan of movies like Top Gun where supersonic jets are engaged in dog fights and constantly making amazing maneuvers? If so, then ACE Online may be just the thing you’ve been looking for.
At it’s heart it is a flying combat game with RPG overtones set into an MMO framework built on the F2P game model. What does all that mean? It means that your time in the game is split pretty much fifty fifty between running around in a city as a biped and flying around in combat environments in a super jet-like machine of war.
Within the city, you’ll be in the guise of your pilot character. You’ll be able to run around the city to various locales that have wares to sell, ways to upgrade your character skills and your hardware as well. You’ll also pick up missions, as well as lore about the game world within the confines of the city and this is the place you will have most of your interaction with other players.
There are two basic factions within the game, and at level 11 you will be joining one or the other. This dynamic can change the core experience of game play as it can lead to some interesting inter-guild and inter-personal PvP confrontations and conflicts. This social aspect of the game is heavily clique-ish and while that could be considered a con or downside, it can also be a strength if you manage to integrate yourself into it.
The game really shines, however, in the combat. This is where you jump into your ‘ship’ of which you have a few basic choices at first. As you progress this can change but to begin with you will have to choose from a few basic types. All of them look like a cross between a veritech fighter and a stealth bomber with a touch of spaceship thrown in and the graphics depicting them are sharp and clear without being overly complex. This style of rendering is actually a boon when it comes to the game’s combat, since it is so fast and furious, flying, turning, diving, shooting, rolling etc. that you wouldn’t get to admire high details anyway. The combat itself is quite satisfying with plenty of impressive explosions and various skills and powers that give you a neat bit of eye candy as well.
While there are bonuses available for those that want to spend micro purchase amounts of money in this game (the F2P model) none of those are actually needed or required to play, enjoy and progress through the game. This one has everything an MMO or RPG could want, as well as much to draw the action fans. I’d recommend it to anyone that is looking for a slightly different kind of MMO, or even just fans of big jets. Until next time, my friends.
